The SAT Mathematics section is one of the two main sections of the SAT, a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. The SAT Mathematics section assesses your mathematical reasoning skills and your ability to solve problems in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

The SAT Mathematics section consists of two portions: the calculator portion and the no-calculator portion. Both portions contain multiple-choice questions and grid-in questions, where you must fill in the answer on a grid.

The topics covered in the SAT Mathematics section include:

  1. Heart of Algebra: Linear equations and inequalities, systems of linear equations, and functions.
  2. Problem Solving and Data Analysis: Ratios, proportions, percentages, interpreting and analyzing data from graphs and tables, and statistical concepts.
  3. Passport to Advanced Math: Quadratics, polynomials, rational expressions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and complex numbers.
  4. Additional Topics in Math: Geometry (properties of shapes, coordinate geometry), trigonometry, and advanced topics.

The SAT Mathematics section does not involve calculus or other advanced topics beyond high school mathematics curriculum. However, it does require a solid understanding of fundamental mathematical concepts and the ability to apply them in problem-solving situations.

Your performance on the SAT Mathematics section contributes to your overall SAT score, which is reported on a scale from 400 to 1600. Additionally, you’ll receive subscores for the Math section, which provide more detailed feedback on your performance in specific mathematical areas.
